SSEHV- Education that makes us blossom into future Leaders
- 10 Jun 2013
SSEHV, which stands for Sathya Sai Education in Human Values, is a universal, value-based teaching programme for all children of all cultures and religion.
I joined EHV when I was around 4 years old. Back then, I didn't quite understand why my parents wanted me to come here. But now, after 5 years, I am beginning to understand how it is influencing my life and how it is shaping me to the person I am becoming today.
Our weekly EHV sessions not only consist of learning vedic chants, bhajans, or playing value-based games, but also have a lot of opportunities to perform on stage during the Sai Fiesta. When our group needs to perform, for example, when we need to do a drama, we all put in so much effort to practice in order to be perfect. Our gurus ensure that we strive for our best each time. This has made me realize that we should always do our best in everything we do. By working together with my friends in my group, I have also learnt to become a team leader as well as a good team member.
In March this year, our gurus even organized an elocution competition. Each of us had to come out and present a topic for about three minutes. At first, I was really nervous and I was wondering if I could do it. But our gurus were simply amazing. They gave us a lot of good pointers and guided us throughout. With all their support and encouragement to us, I managed to go up on stage confidently and do my very best.
Just a few weeks ago, it was the school's mid-term examinations. We were obviously very stressed out. But our gurus reminded us to stay calm, say our Gayatri Mantra and the following affirmation, "I can do it, I will do it" just before our exams. This really made me very positive and made me believe in myself.
I sometimes dread going to school but I push through the week because I look forward to Saturdays when I can come to EHV. Not only can I be myself and spend time with my friends, but also always learn something new in class each time.
I would like to use this opportunity to thank my gurus. Without their support and guidance, I would not have had the courage to stand up and speak in front of so many of you today. Swami says, " What the head thinks, should be examined critically in the heart and this right decision should be carried out by the hands." And this is exactly what Sathya Sai Education in Human Values teaches us. It blossoms children to become leaders of tomorrow.
