THE POWER OF GAYATRI MANTRA - 17 JANUARY 2005
My humble Pranams at the Lotus Feet of Swami.
Sai Ram uncles, aunties, brothers and sisters. I am Praveen from Group 4 and the topic of my talk today is “The Power of the Gayatri Mantra”
What is the Gayatri Mantra? Goddess Gayatri Mantra is the Mother of all Vedas and the Protector of all living beings. Swami has said that by chanting the Gayatri Mantra at least twice a day - morning and evening - the sin committed unknowingly that day are destroyed and any left over Karma is burnt away. This is the power of the Mantra. In addition, the one who chants it will get closer and closer to Divinity. If we chant it everyday, we need not chant any other Mantra. It also protects us from calamities and gives us intelligence, learning and success.
Nowadays many of us say that we do not have the time to chant the Gayatri Mantra. It is not a question of a lack of time. Instead, it is a lack of interest and commitment. Anyone who has the will to do it, can easily do it at least twice daily if not more.
Westerners have investigated the vibrations produced by this Mantra and have found that when it is recited with the correct accent as laid down in the Vedas, the atmosphere becomes visibly illumined. If you chant the Gayatri Mantra wholeheartedly, you will benefit yourself as well as the environment for all else to enjoy!
Let me share with you a very interesting experience I once had and the wonders of chanting the Gayatri Mantra. One weekday morning, I overslept. When I woke up, I was terrified as I was sure that I would be late for school. As I was a frequent latecomer to school, the teacher had previously warned me that the next time I was late for school, I would be in hot soup. Unfortunately, this was the next time!
After rushing through my morning duties, I dashed out of the house with 10 minutes to go before the school bell would ring. I got onto a bus that would take me 20 minutes to reach school. I started chanting the Gayatri Mantra in desperation. During the bus journey, I looked at my watch again and again while chanting the Gayatri Mantra.
To my pleasant surprise, each time I looked at my watch, it was the same time. Completely unexpectedly, I managed to reach school seconds before the opening bell rang. I was relieved!
So as you can see, the Gayatri Mantra is very powerful and it can lead to miracles, big or small. It has even helped me during my exams and other stressful situations.
I sincerely urge everyone to chant the Gayatri Mantra regularly and consistently as Swami has guided us to. Thank you.
